The Million Word Challenge is a community-wide literacy initiative that challenges students, preschool through 12th grade, to read MILLIONS of WORDS outside of the classroom. Los Angeles County schools can participate in the campaign by registering at www.millionwordchallenge.org between November 1, 2009 - December 15, 2009.  On November 19, 2009, schools can kick-off the Million Word Challenge on their campus by watching a very special webcast.   Join the webcast at 8:30 am and learn “How to Get Ready for the Million Word Challenge: Literacy Strategies for Schools.  At 9:00 am, the 2009-2010 Million Word Challenge Launch Event will be broadcast live from Gratts Elementary School and will include community leaders challenging the students of Los Angeles County to read a million words.

for Schools:

Schools are encouraged to watch the Million Word Challenge Kick-Off at 9:00 am together with students.  Please note that schools watching the webcast from several different computers on one campus may experience technical difficulties.  To avoid technical challenges, it is best to watch the kick-off as one group.
